Chasing the Ghost of John Brown: Is Black America Fixated With Finding the “Exceptional” White Person?

This weekend, the blazing hot story off the presses involves Rachel Dolezal, the white woman who disguised herself as a Melanoid woman while serving as head of the Spokane, WA chapter of the NAACP.

The breaking story ignited an explosion of discussions and reactions, particularly in Black Society. Some schools of thought within Black Society imply that Dolezal’s act in ‘Blackface’ was a noble one; that she–unlike the overwhelming majority of the dominant white society that she originates from–is doing the work that many people even in Black Society chose not to do. Dolezal’s Blackfaced facade has evoked the spirit and memory of John Brown, the white abolitionist who allegedly sacrificed his life after leading a slave uprising against whites which led to his death by execution in 1859. Although Brown did not attempt to hide his racial identity like Dolezal, his leadership of the charge into Harpers Ferry portrays an image of a white man who deeply ingrained himself into a state of empathy for the oppressed Melanoid people–much like Rachel Dolezal in 2015–to the point of reportedly fighting for our right to obtain freedom and justice, even if it meant sacrificing his own life.

In present day, Rachel Dolezal could very well remind many Black American history enthusiasts of John Brown, although the depths of her desire for true Black Empowerment remains to be seen. What can be proven, however, is Black Society’s eagerness to anoint the next “white hope”…someone who we can proclaim is ‘exceptional’ and ‘genuine’ as they stand shoulder-to-shoulder with us in the fight against systematic racism/white supremacy. We have witnessed such a phenomenon in the areas of society that we dominate, such as hip-hop or sports, for example. For years, many of us in Black Society have found it flattering to witness a member of the dominant society come in and rap like us, conquer us in the sports we dominate, and now take on the physical attributes that we were naturally born with as African people. In the case of Rachel Dolezal, it now appears that whites will take the leading roles as “Black” activists as well. While it has been proven many times that the NAACP’s agenda has been counterproductive to true Melanoid Empowerment, it now appears that Dolezal’s position as the President of the Spokane chapter of the 106-year-old organization has given people the assumption that we as Melanoid people are incapable of leading our own movements in the fight for justice.

With all evidence pointing to the fact that an all-out war has been declared on Melanoid people, maybe we should re-visit the fact that the acceptance of a “white chocolate” into the ranks of Black Society should be cause for concern. Are they “down” because they want to aid us in pursuing Melanoid Empowerment, or otherwise?

Looking at the headline purely? Yes. The answer is yes.

  2. DC says:

Even after Malcolm returned from Mecca and changed some of his views he still would not allow white people to join the new organization he was forming. He would allow them to donate and assist but never join. He knew that the true objective of many white people was to move into a position of leadership in a black organization, and that by doing so they would slow our progress. 60 years later and here we are. The NAACP was headed by a white man for its first 54 years in existence. It never has been an organization that we controlled. We shouldn’t be surprised.

  3. Jonathan says:

I recall Dave Chappelle having a racial draft on his show. We need another one lol.

  4. James says:

I am torn with this. I wonder if we are being too hard on this lady. Yes – she is white, but I wonder if the pressure of having 4 adopted brothers and sisters was enough to make her “understand” what blacks deal with. Could she really be the pure definition of a “wannabe”? Could she really be dealing with wanting to be a black person while trapped in a white body? Does her record at the NAACP show she is down with us, or that she is an infiltrator working from the inside (not hard in the NAACP) to destroy us? If her record shows she has more stones than a lot of the so-called brothers and sisters – so we need to show this “sister” some love and thank her for being brave enough to ATTEMPT to be one of us?

Help me out as I am struggling.

    1. Lady says:

She isn’t doing us any favor “Attempting” to be black, she is running from her messy family situation and using the black community to do so. We should not accept liars among us.

    2. B-Nice says:

I could ride wichoo, but why would she PRETEND to be Black and try to fool people. She could of presented herself the same way (like a Black person) and still told everyone the truth – that she’s white. And no matter how BLACK a white person acts, they can NEVER BE BLACK. Why? Because if it getz too hot in the kitchen they can always get out of it. For us, there are no options out, we are Black 24 hours of the day 7 days a week. (Not that I want out of being Black – only out of the condition we are in).

  5. recordtwist says:

I don’t know anything about this woman and her motives, so I can’t really call it one way or another. Personally, I’ve been suspicious of people who aren’t black trying to act “down” so to speak so my antennas are up when I see individuals like this pop up.

As far as the NAACP is concerned, they were white ran up until the ’60’s and have existed on white money throughout its existence. Have they really done anything tangible in their existence, especially recently? I still remember that Leon Jenkins or whatever his name was from the Los Angeles NAACP giving props to Donald Sterling recently.

DC brought up a very valid point. We have to control all of our organizations, fund our organizations, and our organizations have to be for black people specifically.

  6. Lady says:

    Hello family,
I live in Spokane and I do not think that people truly understand this community for if they did, they would know that she really hasn’t done anything substantial. I got the sense that this woman just liked the culture just like Iggy Azalea or Eminem. If she were truly dedicated to the struggle, why not stay white, expose your people, or speak truth to power. There isn’t a strong black community here to even advocate for like that. This area is filled with swirlers and transplants running from the oppressive inner cities. We all work for white people out here or lay up with them. Maybe someone can show me what she did for black people, maybe I just missed it. We are leaving this area because we miss being part of a real black community.

  7. Jacob says:

You don’t have to be black to join the NAACP but given their record I don’t think any black person should EVER take that organization seriously when it comes to empowering and protecting your community…….

I think she may be engaging in a form of slumming but regardless of her motives we must always remember one thing…..:

    NEVER INVEST IN A LIE!!!

  8. sportingz_one says:

Untrustworthy, treachery and deceitfulness are the ingredients of children rebelling against their parents. It was Rachel Dolezal parents who reported that she is white. Rachel changed her identity married a Melanoid man and has Melanoid children to rebel against her parents who may believe that the white race is inherently superior to other races and that white people should have control over Melanoid people.
Anybody who wants to be a leader of Melanoid people has to focus, demonstrate and produce Melanoid self- empowerment. If we are going to make progress we have to understand how to utilize an excess of one trillion dollars that Melanoid people earn each year in the United States.

  9. sam says:

What has naacp done for the black community??

  10. R8sing A nation says:

My 1st thought was wow! why did her parents out her in such a public way? even though the news reporter was on to her , I still would have never put any of children on blast like that.
My 2nd thought was, why are people making such a big deal? The NAACP has been a null and void organization to blacks for years.

  11. JamesEarlMoans says:

Except that Jon Browne didn’t pass himself off or his sons as black.

I see no comparison with someone who ran from questions when confronted about their fraud to a man who was willing to sacrifice the lives of his family to liberate black people.

  12. R8sing A nation says:

Boy the media is coming for her. Guess she will be doing a press conference tomorrow, should be interesting.

I think the lying is bad and this whole covert operation of hers is strange. In my opinion what I see happening is the media and her family besmirching her. That way when she starts telling on white people they can dismiss her as being crazy and delusional.
Even though whatever she may express as her experiences with racism and knowledge of the white supremacist structure will be nothing new to most blacks , but to whites for one of their own to speak on it from a 1st hand experience(although limited and questionable) just may be a little too much for some white people.

Also in my opinion just based on what I’ve heard from her family, I think they were feeling slighted and that’s why they have been all to willing in outing her. I bet there is a whole whisper campaign in their town about their daughter. The parents maybe were ashamed of their daughter that she had brought this on them.
I believe it was Neely Fuller that said “under the structure of white supremacy they will sacrifice their own”
If she were my daughter I would tell her to get a lawyer because she is going to have a lot to answer for. But I would never speak to the media and help add to the media shit storm.
Their daughter has kids why would they help the media bring this stress onto the kids?

Now I understand she did it to herself and she will be judged in the court of opinion and if she broke any laws, that’s just facts. But I’m just not with her parents and brother sitting in the witness seat. That’s shady

But I’m going to sit back and watch as they label her as crazy, therefore they can say anything she talks about can be dismissed as babblings from a loon.

Let us remember that when the government/law enforcement wants to gain access and insight to other groups, we as tax payers pay for them to embed themselves. Here this lady has embedded herself for whatever reason and instead of telling on black folks she is telling on white folks.

Imagine what a hero she would be if she was whistle blowing on blacks and the NAACP.

This sounds like white peoples problems to me.

  13. Eddie lipp says:

Tariq you are my man 50 grand and all that….but a big majority of black men and women have been spending their lives to live and look like the Caucasoid American dream for years..i don’t she took the identity ..i think she simply admired it. When a lot of black people think their blackness is ugly. Take off them blonde and other crap then we can have argument about this

  14. acuhuru says:

Who ever wrote this story is.an idiot how the heck could you.compare Old Brown the.most serious white dude that rolled with us to that walking minstrel show you need to educate yourself to the complexity of the history of the struggles of our people

  15. acuhuru says:

Old Brown did more than that raid he was a.major underground railroad conductor and in Kansas he massacred several.pro.slavery whites because of their transgressions Rachel dozal should never be.mentioned in the same breath as Old Brown

  16. Tristin says:

Now she will go back to being White…where she will get book deals, tv show offers, maybe even a movie script about her story…while Black people continue to fight racism… whoever said that crime doesn’t pay lied…racism/White supremacy pays pretty damn good!!

  17. dc1969 says:

Personally, to me, this is just a distraction to what’s going on in this screwed up country. The Naacp is a bogus assed operation anyway. Founded in 1909,Niagra Falls,N.Y by caucasian,so called jews. What would it really benefit them to help black/melanoid people anyway? This woman maybe does have some psychological issues, but so do we. Particularly our women. We as black/melanoid males do have some damage too. But our sisters seem to have a certain emotionally damaged mind because they emulate the very women they claim to dislike by still rocking stupid weaves and extensions, blonde, purple, blue etc. As far as i am concerned, we need to get our shit together and stop wanting validation from these other groups. Like i said earlier, fuck the Naacp! Never had our best interests!

  18. Kenneth Wallace says:

As an NAACP Branch President, I am deeply offended by all of the vitriol directed towards this historic organization in these comments. One, two or even three bad apples does not mean the entire bunch is rotten. It is just historically asinine to say that the NAACP has never done anything for black people. Does anybody remember Charles Hamilton Houston or Thurgood Marshall and all of the victories won by the NAACP Legal Defense Fund? What about Rosa Parks, who was an NAACP Branch Secretary. Have you ever heard of E. D. Nixon? What about Medger Evers, Wharlest Jackson and Vernon Dahmer? These men only gave their LIVES in the struggle for justice and righteousness for black people in this country! They were targeted and murdered because of their affiliation with the NAACP! I consider that SOMETHING! I am proud to walk in the footsteps of these giants. As a Branch President in a racist Parish in North Louisiana, I have endured threats, persecution and retribution because of our uncompromising stand against racism/white supremacy in this area. Scared Negros and Coons have made me a pariah in my own community. So don’t sit up here and lump every NAACP member with this woman pretending to be black or that idiot taking money from Donald Sterling. Some of us are still putting in that work….but I digress…

    1. dc1969 says:

The NAACP has not really benefited us,brother,as a majority. If it did, we would still have our own economy as it was pre-intergration. Intergration,by far,is the probably the worst thing that has happened for Black/melanoid people. Every other group has benefited from this except us. Other races/ethnic groups come over here and have reaped the prizes. The civil rights generation actually dropped the ball for the future generations by saying we should embrace this American “dream”. This is a damned nightmare.that being said, i have no beef with those who still that we have overcome! Separation, our own economy and guns/own miltary is what is needed. Just my humble opinion.

  19. dc1969 says:

To brother Wallace in Louisiana: i would like to apologize for casting a whole blanket over your organization. You,from what read above, are a rare breed of brother who is in that organization who i would say is not a coon or scared Black person. What i am saying is we have to protect ourselves and by any damned means necessary. Trying to break bread with those who have nefarious intentions when it comes to us is not a good look .now whether this Rachel Dozelal was in that organization with good intentions,we will never really know. But to me, it seems that she lied and said she was one of us. In real life, that is called a con game. I am not going to keep harping on this subject anymore. Keep up with the war against those racist thugs in Louisiana, brother!

  20. Kenneth Wallace says:

DC 1969, apology accepted family. As a descendent of African slaves, I have an obligation to stand against any and all remnants of slavery; and any mis-representations of our glorious/brutal history! This is why I am a supporter of the great work of men such as Tariq Nasheed.
