As expected, white supremacists have lashed out from every angle imaginable–from social media, to offline, where many of his “fans” have taken to burning their Kaepernick jerseys–that had he not stepped forward to address systematic racism/white supremacy in this country–they would have likely continued to wear them proudly on gamedays in sports bars and living rooms everywhere.

The following video is a compilation of suspected white supremacist fans who have decided to record themselves on video burning the the Black QB’s jersey. Judging off of the video’s “like/dislike” ratio, one can see that this (Kaepernick’s jersey burning) is well received by a large number of viewers on a grand scale.

The burning of Colin Kaepernick’s jersey isn’t new. As a matter of fact, it has become a trending activity that suspected white supremacist sports fans engage in when their favorite Black superstar athletes ‘get out of place’. Perhaps the most notable jersey burning ceremony took place in 2010, when white fans in Cleveland took to the streets in a belligerent manner to burn their Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James jerseys after he made his famous ‘Decision’ to leave the Cavs by signing with the Miami Heat that summer.

Shortly before the white supremacist sports fans’ outrage against Kaepernick ensued a few days ago, NBA superstar Kevin Durant–who played for the Oklahoma City Thunder for nearly a decade–signed with the Golden State Warriors as a free agent this past summer (2016). The video below shows fans giving Durant the same treatment:

In the eyes of many, the notion of these fans burning jerseys of their favorite players can be written off as an act of passionate sports fans heartbroken and angry. In reality, this trend contains heavy racial undertones. Colin Kaepernick, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant are all blessed with otherworldly athletic abilities, they are great teammates, and more importantly, they are upstanding citizens whose faces we’ve never seen in mugshots. However, this does not matter to white supremacists.

The issue that the dominant society has with the aforementioned athletes is that they are well-to-do Black men who either:

a) They prioritize their own best business interests over the selfish wants of their white supremacist fans

b) They’ve used their platform to openly address serious matters that affect Black Society

or

c) They do both.

This has always posed a problem among white supremacists, who’d rather see nothing more than Black athletes–and non athletes alike– stay in their places by doing nothing to empower themselves economically, socially, etc. Instead of deploying lynch mobs to burn down great Black communities such as Tulsa, Oklahoma or Rosewood, Florida, they’ve utilized that same lynch mob mentality to burn jerseys of Black athletes who…decide to take their lives into their own hands.

The Renaissance of Black Wall Street https://www.melanoidnation.org/the-renaissance-of-black-wall-street/ https://www.melanoidnation.org/the-renaissance-of-black-wall-street/#comments Tue, 26 May 2015 09:04:07 +0000 http://melanoidnation.org/?p=1793 In recent years, there has been very insightful and in-depth analysis among the brightest minds of Black Society involving the legend which has now become ‘Black Wall Street’. The dialogues now include yet another element to them that has sparked the interests of countless Melanoid people throughout the U.S., and beyond: Where should the next “Black Wall Street” be?

If there has been one question alone that has created a conversational wildfire in Black Society, it’s the question of where “Black Wall Street” should make its new home. Should the new “Black Wall Street” take residence in Atlanta, with its Black mayor, countless Black millionaires, entrepreneurs, and its recently-created reputation of “Black Hollywood“? Should it be rooted in Chicago, the midwestern City that was founded by a Black man, and  the same city where the Nation Of Islam is based? What about Detroit, the largest city in Michigan with a majority Black population that once served as an incubator to some of the greatest music ever created (by Melanoid people nonetheless) by the Brothers and Sisters at Motown?

All of the previous questions are not only great questions to ask and consider, but they also happen to all be the correct answers. The answer is that all of the cities mentioned above–in addition to any other city of Melanoid people willing to create their own Black economic base–should  have a new “Black Wall Street“. With the militaristic attacks executed by the hands of white supremacists during the early 20th century to destroy the original “Black Wall Street” in Tulsa, OK, it’s a safe assumption to acknowledge that  building new “Black Wall STREETS” in as many cities inhabited by Melanoid people as possible is the best option at this point..

The following video clip is a trailer to an upcoming film which shows the importance of building multiple “Black Wall Street” districts to avoid being easily isolated for destruction at the hands of white supremacists once again.

The Real Story Behind the Race Card https://www.melanoidnation.org/the-real-story-behind-the-race-card/ https://www.melanoidnation.org/the-real-story-behind-the-race-card/#comments Tue, 18 Nov 2014 18:16:54 +0000 http://melanoidnation.org/?p=140

We’ve all heard about the notorious race card. When Blacks mention race as a determinant for being wronged, mistreated or undermined in this country, they’re often met with resistance. Many in the mainstream claim that Blacks are just playing the race card, refusing to be accountable for their own actions. But who’s right and who’s wrong in this scenario? Are Blacks too quick to play the race card, or do Whites create this argument to relinquish themselves from fault? Let’s examine this debate more closely.

When researching the concept of race in this country, many different theories and dates appear. Some scholars in the 17th century used race to classify people with different physical traits, while other researchers denote race as simply a social construct. Even though researchers seem unresolved about this issue, it is clear. Blacks in this country, because of their difference to Whites, were highly mistreated and tortured through slavery, Jim Crow laws and by organized groups like the KKK. Laws and policies were also enacted that excluded and alienated Blacks because of their difference to Whites.

Many Whites profited financially from the concept of race, while Blacks suffered the consequences of this social construct, both economically and culturally. Whites consistently used the race card to disenfranchise Blacks and other groups using the media, job market, health care systems and court systems. From the Tuskegee Experiment to the destruction of Black Wall Street to the lynchings of thousands of Blacks, the race card tormented Blacks. This is where the concept of white guilt enters the picture. These discussions of injustices unnerve many Whites. It makes them feel bad. However it’s highly improbable that Whites feel worse than Blacks about this topic.

Considering the history of Blacks in this country, it’s logical that Blacks use the race card in many cases. When unarmed Black kids are killed disproportionately in the streets by public authorities, it’s reasonable to understand the race play. When Black men are stopped and frisked by police at higher rates than Whites, it’s reasonable to understand the race play. When Black men are least likely to get hired for jobs they qualify for, it’s reasonable to understand the race play. When Black girls go missing without media attention or concern, it’s reasonable to understand the race play. Of course, every claim of racism may not be valid. But it’s reasonable to understand the stimulus behind racism claims in this country.

The race card was played against Blacks for centuries, and nothing was really done about it. No benefits were ever truly offered to Blacks to compensate them for their losses. These racial truths created tons of distrust between Blacks and Whites in this country, so the race card will always be around. It’s not going anywhere and neither are the historical markers that are attached to it. One can only hope that, one day, the race card won’t be used to oppress any groups. However it seems unlikely that a day like that will ever arrive.
