According to Pedulla, both he and his research team noticed that gay Black men had a better chance of commanding the same starting pay as straight white man. Straight Black men and gay white males often received lesser salaries.

The conclusion of Pedulla’s research shows that people outside of the dominant society felt less threatened by the presence of a gay Black man. This is yet another tool used to divide the African Diaspora, and it’s a demoralizing method being used to deny certain Black men the opportunity to earn a living for their families.
