Officer Jason Van Dyke, who has been the target of several complaints accusing him of excessive force and making racial slurs, is on paid desk duty. Van Dyke, 37, shot 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times while he was 12 to 15 feet away, according to the Chicago Tribune.

In the video, you can clearly see McDonald get shot then fall to the ground. And while on the ground, he was repeatedly shot execution style.

Van Dyke turned himself in Tuesday, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a press release. A judge has ordered that he be held without bail.

Prosecutors decided to charge Van Dyke because the dash cam video of the execution was set to be released to the public after a year long cover-up. More officers are complicit in this modern day lynching, because there were reports of the Chicago police going to a Burger King restaurant that was near the killing, and erasing surveillance tapes that captured the murder.

A Black Chicago teen by the name of Laquan McDonald was murdered by Chicago police back in October, after being shot 16 times. The incident occurred after the late McDonald was confronted by police on October 20, 2014. The murder is currently under federal investigation because the policed claimed they were “in fear for their lives”, which allegedly prompted them to shoot the teen 16 times. The Chicago City Council’s Finance Committee has proposed that they pay $5 million to the family of the slain teen. The council will vote on the terms of the settlement on Wednesday, April 15.
