And instead of calling on the University of Oklahoma and the white supremacist students connected to the racist fraternity to take responsibility, the panelists blamed Black rappers for making the n-word popular among today’s youth.

So we can just forget the fact that the predominantly white SAE Fraternity is over a century old,and this chant is alleged to have originated decades ago before hip hop or rap was invented.

And we can also forget the fact that part of the  SAE Fraternity chant mentions hanging Black people from trees. It’s safe to assume the SAE Fraternity didn’t learn about lynching Black people by hanging them from listening to rap songs.

“The More Things Change…” : Racist Millennials and…Black Money??? https://www.melanoidnation.org/the-more-things-change-racist-millennials-and-black-money/ https://www.melanoidnation.org/the-more-things-change-racist-millennials-and-black-money/#comments Tue, 10 Mar 2015 13:20:14 +0000 http://melanoidnation.org/?p=1033 In spite of the anonymously leaked video that shows members of the University of Oklahoma chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity singing racist chants in tribute of their fraternity on a bus, at this point, many individuals in the Melanoid community are not convinced of the university’s decision to issue a public apology on their website.

After watching the white men on the bus spew their racial epithets, it’s safe to assume that the only thing they felt remorseful about is the fact that their shenanigans were exposed to the world. We are also reminded that they are products of the so called “millennial” generation. Several recent news stories cite that millennials aren’t as progressive and open-minded as many in our community would like to believe. When it comes to maintaining the system of white supremacy that millennials outside of the Black/Melanoid community benefit from, why would they even care to forfeit everything they’ve been given, and not earned?

This current generation has witnessed more interracial relationships and marriages than any previous time in American history, yet biracial children are experiencing the same injustice that their Brothers and Sisters born of two Black parents are experiencing. The past 15-20 years have shown that many non-Black millennials have embraced & capitalized from hip-hop culture, yet they continue to make out-of-pocket remarks about their Black counterparts in hip-hop.

Many millennials in the dominant society have shamelessly given much praise and financial support to Black boy murderers such as George Zimmerman & Darren Wilson.

In closing, the theory that millennials have righted the wrongs of their forefathers is an erroneous one. While our community should not expect millennials of the dominant society to abandon their religion of white supremacy any time soon, it’s ironic to realize that the relationship of this current system is symbiotic with the very people it oppresses. An alarming fact is that the white supremacist fraternity members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon will eventually go on to be CEOs of the companies we work for, policy makers, and the educators of many of our children. In essence, systematic racism/white supremacy needs systematic Black dysfunction to thrive.

If members of the dominant society take grievance with Blacks portraying their childhood (fictional) superheroes on film, imagine their reactions in the event that the late, great ancestor Harriet Tubman becomes the new face of the $20 bill?
