Every now and then, someone from the dominant society will do the right thing and call out systematic white supremacy. The reason why this is rarely done by people in the dominant society is because there are penalties for going “off code” in regards to maintaining and upholding the system of white supremacy.
In a recent interview, Star Wars film series creator George Lucas refers to the Disney corporation-the entity who purchased the Star Wars franchise- as ‘white slavers”. Many people speculate that this was done in response to the blatant white supremacist propaganda portrayed in the latest Star Wars 7 film.
After Lucas made the white slaver comments on the Charlie Rose show, there was an immediate backlash from suspected white supremacists Star Wars fans online.
On Thursday, the Star Wars franchise creator issued a statement apologizing for the “very inappropriate analogy” and said he was very proud of “Force Awakens” director J.J Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
I want to clarify my interview on the Charlie Rose Show. It was for the Kennedy Center Honors and conducted prior to the premiere of the film. I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy and for that I apologize.
I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger’s leadership. Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise. I rarely go out with statements to clarify my feelings but I feel it is important to make it clear that I am thrilled that Disney has the franchise and is moving it in such exciting directions in film, television and the parks. Most of all I’m blown away with the record breaking blockbuster success of the new movie and am very proud of JJ and Kathy.
Mr. Lucas was very brave for calling about the racist undertones of the latest Star Wars film, and it’s unfortunate that people in the dominant white society are shamed, criticized and pressured to apologize for expressing their opinions against the unjust system of white supremacy.

I don’t think that interview had a connection of how the character Fin was portrayed. As a matter of fact, it was more about him saying, he sold the movies he held close to him like children, to a corporation, and now he has no control over them. He probably felt he could make the ‘White Slaver’ comment the same way a Black person feels they can criticize other Black folks in front of a Black person.

I’m Black. I was saying we shouldn’t put him on our shoulders and cheer him on too quickly. If you watch the video, you’ll see that it was more light-hearted than it seems in the conversation we are having. George Lucas was talking about his work more than the racial tone of the movie and the Fin character. That was all I was saying.
@confidencemagnet bruh you are not alone in this opinion but we are clearly in the minority on this one. That said I stand by the fact that although finn may have over acted a little bit. His role was to be the point of view for the audience. Also his alot of the comedy was thrust on to his shoulders and the fact that it hit is alot to his credit. Here are the facts #1 he has the 3rd most screen time of any character. #2 Disney has 2 black characters in this movie Lapita and John Boyega. #3 finn is apart of the entire trilogy meaniing this is the begining of his arc and he will grow as a character.
I end by saying this. Every Argument Tariq makes on this I could make about Lando Calrision in Empire Strikes back. He didnt get Leah, He was stereotyped (smooth black man like shaft in the late 1980) He was their to service the main characters. But in the next movie he destroyed the death star.
My point is this if you think John Boyega was buck dancing then so be it you have that right guess what. The sad thing is with that opinion I bet all the people complaining will still pay to see episode 8 when it comes out and Rogue 1 when it comes out Dec 2016 (That has forest Whitaker in it btw)
P.s. John Boyega is 23 yrs old and if anyone questions his dedication his black ness he is the only Actor I have heard use the term Melonin at this young of and age. This was in reference ot the racial back lash he was recieving earlier on in the marketing campaign. So please do your research rather than having fake nigga outrage about things that all in all is not important in the big picture.
P.s. 2 Tariq has sade that this is the only Star wars movie he has seen at the time of watching episoe 7 so he went into this not knowing the history of star wars George Lucas and the lore and how it has portrayed black people (There is a book about an entire planet of Black folks that the entire population has the force. (This is where mace windu comes from (2nd trilogy most powerful human jedi and 1of only 2 jedi to stand up to the emperor)

I’ve been calling out Disney racism for decades. However, in this case Lucas’ complaint was he did not approve of the movie because it was to much referenced back to the original three movies. It had nothing to do with the race of any character or any other social element, only the creative factors.
I thought this movie was better than the last three, the pre-quals, by far.
And didn’t anyone notice, the “Storm Trooper”, Fin, fought the bad guy Vader replacement nearly to a draw with no Jedi training at all? Which makes me suspect he will have an even more significant role in the next one.
