This week, two Black heroes were born.
John Carlos and Tommie Smith, the Melanoid Track & Field athletes who dominated the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, were both born on this week, with Mr. Carlos being born on June 5, and Mr. Smith’s birthday taking place the following day. However, their connection was much deeper than their birthday weeks, or even the university they both attended (San Jose State University). They were both immortalized for the powerful statement they made by raising the Black Power fist as a defiant and empowering gesture in the face of White supremacy that occurred in the United States during the tumultuous decade of the 1960s.
Mr. Carlos and Mr. Smith were pioneers in that they were athletes who took such a stance, which has become a foreign concept in today’s sporting world. This is an excellent viewing source for many of our Melanoid youth who may not be familiar with the two historical figures.

Black athletes today are to scared to mess anything up with the dominant society. They would rather dump buckets of ice water over their heads.
Today’s athletes lack intestinal and moral fortitude. No balls whatsoever. No knowledge of the past and smile to damn much to make the so called dominant feel secure in the fact that the majority,but not all,black athletes are here to entertain.
Men are molded by the eras they grow up in. Because things are “better,” today’s athlete feels he has less to be concerned with. There are fewer, or no “issues” he has to speak out on. It took the most drastic of issues, like the shootings/killings of unarmed Blacks to get just a few to make public statements. Tommie Smith and John Carlos caught hell for their stand. It took true courage. However, things have taken a turn back towards their era. We need a few more stars to stand up now. They won’t face the same backlash as Smith and Carlos. Now they’ll have to worry more about bigots on social media calling them names.
the blackman’s biggest obstacle is cowardice…It runs deep in our Culture…
