A judge on Wednesday delayed the sentencing for a former Asian police officer who fatally shot an unarmed Melanoid man in a darkened Brooklyn public housing project stairwell as he decides whether to toss the verdict because of juror misconduct.
The ex-officer, Peter Liang, was convicted of manslaughter in February in the shooting of Akai Gurley. Gurley had been walking down to the lobby when Liang was patrolling the inside of the building. Liang opened a door to the stairwell and fired his weapon once accidentally. The bullet ricocheted and struck Gurley. Liang then chose to contact his union boss instead of giving the dying Black man the medical attention he needed.
Liang’s attorneys questioned a juror in court Wednesday afternoon over his alleged Facebook shares that were critical of police and about accusations he was untruthful during jury selection when he said no one in his close family had ever been accused of a crime.
Juror 9, 62-year-old Michael Vargas, took the witness stand before Justice Danny Chun in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn a week after Liang’s attorneys, Paul Shechtman and Gabriel J. Chin, filed a motion asking for a new trial based on the allegations. Liang’s attorneys wrapped up their questioning of Vargas late Wednesday afternoon, and prosecutors are expected to cross examine him tomorrow.
Liang’s sentencing, originally scheduled for Thursday, April 14, was postponed until and is expected to take place on Tuesday, April 19.

Lets understand this FBF&F the defense attorney’s for this Police Officer wants you to believe that because juror 9 lied about having a family member who may have been accused of a crime. The last time I checked, being accused of a crime is only an accusation and has to be played out through the court system. what this young poorly trained police officer did was completely out of being S.T.D (scared to death) and not out of being accused of a crime. The fact remains that he pulled the trigger on his weapon and shot blindly into a staircase in a public housing projects in which he may have never even been inside of a housing projects and his fear took over. He at the T.P.O. ( Time ,Place, Occurrence) was not being accused of a crime, He was patrolling a staircase within the confines of a housing development and performing his duty as a member of the New York City Police Department. Let’s not lose sight of that or what the defense attorney’s are trying to confuse the general public with. Akil Gurley died because a young scared police officer illegally discharged his firearm in a staircase and the bullet ricocheted off the wall or railing and caused a man to loose his life. Manslaughter = Police Officer .. Wrongful Death = NYPD & City of New York Point Blank!!
Good points but if the cop was black it would not be “Bullet bounced or ricocheted” but “Black” cop shoots unarmed man…..the humanity! Everything describing this cops actions is carefully laid out. If the guy would have done the say for the victim, then maybe this story would be different. I don’t see or say accident when talking about this case….Liang did so many things wrong…he deserves time.
I know niggas don’t think this dude is going to be punished. The supremacist run judicial system does not hold the same regard for all human life. The only way we would know for sure that this cop would be punished is if he was another Black person…two birds one stone. I doubt that they will give Black people even this small victory. It creates a precedent that conflicts with the supremacist code whereas the court system has shown over and over again its allegiance to the perpetuation of said code. Don’t hold your breath family and don’t be upset at the results either. Become as committed to the destruction of the code as the White supremacists and their cohorts are committed to preserving their code.
What Thee Phuck! The Juror did not shoot nobody, Peter Liang did! Neely Fuller spoke on this saying that most often the lawyers for the guilty party would pick out the written thoughts of a person seeking justice and run with it. While the guilty part gets off.
They know what they want to do with this guy, they are now hoping on the fact that we as a people seem to forgot the issues if out of mind. Specially since the media ain’t really covering this or any of the major stories about injustices being waged against Melanoid people.

You are so right, the MSM is trying to not cover this and next week is the NY primaries and all 5 candidates are in the city campaigning! I don’t even know why 2 of the GOP candidates are even in NYC at this point. It’s a distraction tactic to make everyone (especially black people) to forget this tomfoolery. That’s why the sentencing has been postponed until next week. With the primaries in full swing, everyone will be distracted. Chances are the mayor sent out an SOS to his boss Hillary to give him advice to do something.
The Asian community opened up a Pandora’s Box for the black community at this point. It will just show that there will be no more need for a trial by jury when it comes to police killing black citizens. The Asians proved that they will use their money to basically buy out anyone as long as the perpetrator is black. The black DA in the case has shown he has been compromised (like the white DA before him). He needs to go. Asians are too cowardly to go up against white supremacy on their own b/c they in fact crave it so badly. Tariq is right, instead of rioting and burning down their busniesses (God knows they have enough money to rebuild) we need to stop patronizing these stores and basically starve out these wanna be white devils.
