Many people in the dominant society including several media outlets are using Bill Cosby an example for rape and injustice. Many of the Bill Cosby rape accusers,who are mostly white women, have made accusations that allegedly occurred over 30 and 40 years ago. Since we’re talking about decades-old rape cases and using Bill Cosby as the poster child for these accusations, let’s talk about all of the accusations of rape from decades ago that did not receive justice.
Let’s talk about the long history in this country of Black women being brutally raped by a white males in this country and justice never being served. There are several news articles that describe Black women up until the 1960s being brutally gang raped by white males on a regular basis. Many black women who worked as domestics were often sexually assaulted by the white males they work for.
Civil rights icons like Rosa Parks wrote that she was almost raped by a white male neighbor. From what we know that neighbor was never brought to justice. A common narrative from the dominant white society for years in this country has been sexual assault on a Black woman is not really considered rape. Because of the Jezebel stereotype created by the white supremacist against Black women, sexual assault has always been viewed as justified if the victim is a Black woman.
There was also the infamous case of Ruby McCollum who was a wealthy married African-American woman in Florida known for killing a prominent caucasian doctor in 1952 who had been elected to the state senate; she testified during her trial that he had forced her to have sex and bear his child.
Many white males who were accused of raping Black women even admitted to the rapes in court,but they were often still set free and left unpunished for their crimes.
Some of these Black women victims who were raped during the so-called Jim Crow era are still alive to this day. Like Mrs. Recy Taylor out of Alabama. Mrs. Taylor is in her 90’s now, and she was brutally gang raped by 6 white men in the 1940s. Two all white juries dismissed the case and allow her rapists to go free.
A few years ago the state of Alabama apologized to Mrs. Taylor for the miscarriage of justice. There was an apology but no financial compensation. And ultimately this is what many of the Bill Cosby accusers are looking for. Financial compensation. So if we’re going to talk about financial compensation for rape victims in cases that happened decades ago,then there should be a long line of Black women who have been victims of white male rapists lining up for justice.

I don’t know your age, race or sex but I am a black woman of 61. When I was raped and told my parents, I was taken to the only Black MD in my town. White doctors don’t see people of color in my town in Michigan, then. I was 16 at the time. The doctor did a very cursory examination and no rape kid, semantics swab only a pregnancy test. Told my parents that my hymen wasn’t intact and he thought I was crying rape because of my fear of them. I wasn’t afraid of my parents which is why I went to them in the first place. When mom and dad went to the police, they didn’t investigate based on the doctor’s opinion. I later learned, when I went to him for prenatal care years later,that he was of the opinion that young girls of color solicited older men for sex with cash benefits and cried rape when impregnated. This was before the “pill,” and legal abortions. This was also in Michigan, so can only imagine what happened in the dark in the south, where people of color are still fighting for equal treatment. I am never surprised at what people have done but am always amazed at what people will do to each other. Peace, love, understanding, tolerance and humanity to all tonight and forever.

I so have to agree with this comment. I am black and also a woman but the fact remains that this one individual raped dozens of females for DECADES and got away with it. He was/is a one man wrecking ball who single-handedly repeatedly raped dozens of females for decades, in case you missed my earlier mention of this fact. He also stood on his high horse on multiple occasions on everything that was wrong with our communities, he even tore us apart a a NAACP event that was focusing on our achievement. He set his example as the one we should all be following. Also, he didn’t just rape white women he raped black women and he raped women who were still in their teens. He abused their trust and exploited them. He plotted each and every one of his attacks. What really disturbed me was how as each victim came forward everyone pounced on them, trashing them as being opportunistic and just seeking fame, money and an opportunity to take down his “legacy.” As the evidence continues to come out now it’s time to find ways to excuse what he’s done? Justify the way no one supported the victims because the majority of them were white? Really? This is beyond sad and as,a black female it really hurts.

I have to wonder how many of the black women used attraction to grab the attention of their master? I’m sure some liked being in his bed a lot better than being in a field all day. I am a white male who is not made from riches, when I met my wife she lived in a HUD home which she was too proud to tell me about. She had 2 children and I lived with my mother before I moved in with her. Long story short her ex called HUD and the case worker came to her home threatening to file fraud charges unless she agreed to have an affair with him. He was a 60+ year old black man. She asked me to move out the next day after having slept with him while I was at work. It took a couple of monthes to figure out what was going on. She didn’t want to shame me or deceive me, but her children were at risk. I saw him leaving and asked why and was saddened and angered and within a month I had a place but even then she stayed till her lease expired 3 monthes later. We have been married 19 years now. We were both traumatized so I can appreciate mistreated people. This man had a wife and children and was a church deacon. I’m not going to be one to condemn Bill Cosby, but I do know people remain quiet in South Alabama to avoid being dishoned by their Christian families.
