White ESPN Reporter Wants Children of NBA Players Banned From Press Conferences

In addition to its bottom line of dollars and cents, the NBA is also infused by a lifeblood of wins and losses. When it comes to the Black men whose extraordinary athletic feats contribute to the thriving economy of the multi billion dollar sports league, they can’t seem to win from losing as fathers in the eyes of some of the hypocritical media members of the dominant society.

In the late 1990’s, a popular mainstream media publication featured a very distasteful report that showed a collection of players (with the majority of the players being Black) in the NBA at that time who were being bombarded with paternity suits at the time. Of course, this particular article only helped reinforce negative stereotypes and imply that Melanoid men are incapable of being stand-up fathers to their children.Over a decade and-a-half later, a similar white media attack has loomed over the Melanoid men of the NBA who assume dual roles as athletes and responsible fathers.

Brian Windhorst, an ESPN reporter who’s also known for his extensive coverage of NBA superstar LeBron James, was on hand in Oakland, Calif  last night to interview recently-crowned NBA MVP Stephen Curry for a postgame press conference. Mr. Curry’s small daughter, Riley, was in attendance with him as he answered the standard monotonous barrage of questions required by every player to answer after games. Check out Stephen Curry’s daughter, Riley at the press conference:

Riley, being the small child that she is, became slightly playful and restless during the interview, and apparently, her innocent gestures during the press conference offended Windhorst, who took to Twitter by proclaiming his distaste for Curry’s daughter’s presence at the press conference table. He further elaborated upon his frustration by stating that all children should be banned from press conferences. Windhorst wasn’t alone in voicing his displeasure. The following Tweets show that his ESPN colleague, Ramona Shelbourne, felt the same way.

In this article, several Twitter users sided with Brian Windhorst, providing nitpicking commentary on how the players bringing their children to press conferences should be banned. Curry, who honored his father (former NBA player Dell) during his MVP award acceptance speech, did what many of us do not get an opportunity to witness often: A young Black professional athlete paying homage to his father, who played an active and supportive role in the athlete’s upbringing.

The NBA, which is apporximately 80 percent Black, and its players who are fathers who are easy targets as it pertains to this silly demand form Brian Windhorst. The majority of the children who sit with their fathers during press conferences are relatively quiet, and Riley Curry was an innocent exception. The objective of this story is that many of these white media figures take issue with these young Black men openly showing love and support for their children, which goes against their white supremacist written narratives about Black dysfunctional fatherhood. Not only does this apply to Black NBA players, but Black fathers in general.

Well if we’re talking about reporting the news, there is a deadline that reporters have to meet. As far as Brian Windhorst, he has covered Lebron, don’t know his mentality, but on the outside, doesn’t seem like he has ill will.

a visual of a blackman taking care of his child disturbs the white narrative of the ever asbent black father…

Thats the issue here…He is upset it undoes years of work to undermine the blackman as irresponsible

After a father who has spent time warming up for the game, then playing a game where he scored 30+points and lwad his team to a victory, indulged interview after interview before he sat down with his 2yr old daughter on his knee and his pregnant wife somewhere in the background to have to hear that it is unprofessional because a 2yr old does what 2yr olds do is complete rhetoric. He as a reporter has very little impact in comparison to a player of Curry’s status on this game. To show empathy for the scenario… this hard working parent is tired where you have been sitting for the past few hours he has been up and down the court. I am not going to even throw the race card on that because i dont know him personally… i will say you never bring another mans family especially children into a conversation. If he was known for having his child there thats one thing but for this to be a first time is ridiculous for him to have even mentioned anything let alone write anything pertaining to this subject. Bad fourm…

these white women got bold as hell about black chirren after that Trayvon thang two years ago. its like they mad at black babies for some reason, its personal. Yall better keep your kids away from them, you DO NOT wanna know what they did to them during slavery.

    1. Pat says:

You sir are an absolute idiot. He wants all kids banned from press conferences because theyre a distraction not because their black. You know youre just as much of a bigot as true white supremacists are. All this article does is spread hate and misinformation. To sit there and say he is doin it because theyre black is ridiculous. The saddest part is that people actually feed into your nonsensical conspiracy theory.

exactly…me personally i never trusted white females

  5. str8_talk says:

Clearly this is a black man that love his child. Fuck all pious white mo’fukas they can kiss our ass..

  6. ChrisKross says:

They act as if their job is so hard by asking the same questions over and over. Would they ask hockey players to stop bringing their kids no only black players..No wonder Marshawn doesn’t speak to the media fuck ESPN..

  7. Jay says:

Seems like a stretch to try and make this out to be a racial thing. Hidden agenda?

  8. KDR says:

i get it. Its a distraction but there would be some serious issues if someone banned MY babies from an “interview”.

  9. Rudy Smith says:

Who cares about Your dealine. Finally a black positive family man who did exactly what his dad did with him when he played in the NBA. Little Riley was adorable, and stole the show from Mr. Windhorst.

S Curry cares more for his family that your slanted media needs. Go Riley, express yourself, and have no fear of the media. Protect your dad by telling him to be quite, lol

  10. Jarrod Holmes says:

Any athlete of any color at the professional level sacrifices a good amount of family time training and honing their skills, a few moments of distraction pales in comparison to the families loss.

  11. The Airmen says:

B… don’t defend that man he is obliviously jealous of Curry’s accomplishments as a father an it offends him to see a black man doing well for his children so if you sit up their an say ”doesn’t seem like he has ill will” your still sleep… i think your kooning right now an looking for a pat on the head from master Windhorst

  12. MindMuscle says:

B…this is the wrong web site to be spewing your coonish rhetoric. You know good and damn well those reporters had no right to attack that man for having his child sitting next to him at a conference. She may have been talkative but it wasn’t anything to get up in arms about. If he and the child were white, they would have just called it adorable and kept it moving without a whisper. The article was spot on with this issue. This image goes against white supremacist propaganda that Black men do not take care of their children, and this frustrates them to their very core. They know strong families build strong communities, and strong communities build strong nations…That is a white supremacist nightmare in the flesh.

    1. Jane Dow says:

Whatever there goes the race card again do you guys have anything else! No one gives a shit because we have all heard it too many times to care she was annoying in the conference ! Get more material

  13. Michelle says:

The writer for the column, about the ESPN reporter is ignorant, he is giving his opinion and he never passed a comment about anybody else child, it is just that Stephen Curry, daughter would not keep still, she was restless, but to say he is racist and do not want to see black fathers with their child is ridiculous, also you are not the spokesman for all black fathers around the world, that is laughable, very silly comment, worry about yourself and the environment, that makes you think that way.

  14. Alexis says:

First off, this entire article is just designed as click bait and to spur on more racial hatred. You have nothing to support the fact that this same writer wouldn’t have said the same thing if a child with even more white blood than Curry’s was acting out and ruining video sound bites for news. It’s their job to come back with good answers or footage and only NBA players do this. But since you’ve made this about race you should know one thing. White people love Stephen Curry because they see him as one of their own. There’s white blood on his mother’s side and it’s obvious. From his intelligence to his shooting ability it’s clear his ancient white ancestry has meshed well with his black ancestry. These super athletes combing the intelligence, leadership and shooting accuracy of white athletes with the athleticism of blacks is the future of the NBA. You can see it in Blake Griffin. Klay Thompson. Stephen Curry. Jason Kidd. Deron Williams and countless others. He’ll, even Obama’s best attributes came from his where heritage. How do you think he fit in and became elected in the first place? Nobody denies that blacks are more athletic and it should be just as obvious that whites have superior marksmanship, leadership, intelligence and concentration abilities. Combine them and sometimes you get the best of both. I know. I’m mixed, myself. White father. Black mother. Usually it’s the other way around in the NBA and it’s that white influence in the households that’s inspiring these black father’s to become more. Never underestimate a white or mixed woman. We’re the real ones running households and influencing our men.
