Channeling the Energy of Denmark Vesey (Thoughts Of an Empowered Black Christian)

As a Southern Melaninated man of the Christian faith, the Charleston terroristic attack has impacted me particularly hard. Growing-up in the South, I have experienced bouts of racism and have become accustom to seeing the Confederate flag and White people openly carrying firearms. While I was raised in the same gun culture as Whites, I can not identify with these white supremacists’ lust for blood and violence and certainly have never (and would never) use a firearm to terrorize anyone for any reason. However, I will use guns to protect myself, my church family, my family and friends, and my Melaninated people.

Brother Denmark Vesey, a freed slave and one of the original founders of Emanuel AME Church (the church that the White Supremacist terrorist Dylan Roof chose to wage his race battle) was the chief planner of a slave revolt in Charleston, South Carolina in 1822. His plan wasn’t to slaughter White people like they’ve slaughtered us for hundreds of years. Rather, his plan was to use firearms to win the freedom of Melaninated people by fighting their way to the docks and commandeering a ship and sailing to Haiti (which had already defeated the French and won their independence). Unfortunately, the revolt was uncovered by slave owners after being notified by Uncle Tom and coonish Melaninated people. Brother Vesey was a righteous leader who was truly going to use force, with the aid of guns, to save his people from involuntary servitude.

Melaninated men of faith need to take note of Brother Vesey’s courage and conviction. God instructs us to be innocent like doves, but wise as serpents. White Supremacists have shown they want us dead, so it’s time that we take action along with prayer. The Bible says that faith without works is dead and an old African proverb says that when you pray, move your feet. It’s time that we protect those who are in our care, which are our fellow Melaninated people. We need to stay prayed-up and stay armed.

**EDITOR’S NOTE** The following meme briefly explains the Deacons for Defense, a group of Black church deacons in the 1960’s who took the initiative to protect their churches, families, and communities Unfortunately, you can also see how far that movement has regressed some fifty years later.

    That meme is heavy

Emasculation of the black church and black society has gone on since the 60’s and continues till this day.

That’s why a lot of Black men stay out of church…

  2. sayman says:

If it were not for the black church, flaws and all, the black community would not have survived, or be in existence. It’s very easy, through contemporary lenses, to forget this reality; and we do so at our own peril.

    1. Hunting_Jin says:

I disagree, the concept of the ‘Black Church’ was created by white slave owners to supplant native African religions and coral blacks into that forgiveness type thinking we see today. This is why every group of Africans who successfully revolted and escaped besides Harriet and Nat retained their native religions. Caribbean and South America are excellent examples. Even if you want to talk about Christianity it’s superior forms exist in Ethiopia so there is no reason why blacks in the west should not prefer it over the current form.

I would also like to know just how the black community would not have survived without Christianity? I hear this a lot but nobody ever really explains how this is the case.

  3. R8sing A Nation says:

Word!! I may not be a Christian but I’ve heard several christian folks say “God helps those whom help themselves.”

  4. nika says:

That picture on the right look so fukin passive these grown strong back tall black men bowing their heads in prayer wtf whose protecting the women n children. So if i have one of these praying ass dudes in my house n someone come kicking down my door to harm me is this.negro gonna tell me to bow my head n prayer n let the good lawd do his work?black men are the weakest link goodbye!

  5. sayman says:

The complexity of human nature allows those who are balanced to genuflect before a higher power, during moments of reflection, and yet still be a warror when duty calls. Those who.don’t.have enough mental.sophistication, maturity and wisdom to understand this, while engaging in necessary, rabid black male bashing – are truly our weakest links.

    1. Hunting_Jin says:

This is not genuflecting, this is cowardice hiding behind false spirituality. Duty has already called these people yet they have publicly announced that they are ignoring the call. There is no ‘mental sophistication’ in forgiving such heinous acts (Being incapable of holding your hate is not mental sophistication, it’s mental slavery), it is not ‘mature’ (Even a child understands that begging a bully only emboldens him.) and demonstrates no wisdom (Which wise man accepted being beaten over the head with a stick every day? And says ‘i forgive’ when he’s done.) Pointing out the weaknesses in black christian psychy is one of our utmost duties, as doing it prevents events like this from happening.

  6. sayman says:

I meant.to say in the last sentence, “unnecessary, rabid black black male bashing.”

  7. A says:

In Harriet Beecher Stowe’s book Uncle Tom”s Cabin. It’s Sambo not Uncle Tom the betrays our people. Please stop saying Uncle Tom as a synonym for coon. Again, the proper name according to the book for Africans that have no loyalty to Africans – is Sambo !

    1. R8sing A Nation says:

      @A
      word! thank you…

The forgiving nonsense must stop. As for the commentator nika saying that the black man is the weak link, i disagree partly. Yes,a lot brothers are somewhat soft nowadays. I am not one of those brothers and i am not religious. But when i often interact with black/melanoid sisters, they are very quick to apologize or somewhat excuse the so called dominant society’s wicked behavior all too often. Me living in NYC i see this too much and it seems harder and harder too reach my sisters when shit like the massacre occurs. Soft brothers are definitely a problem too. What we have to do is come to grips and realize that we have no outside allies and friends at this point. One thing is for sure: i will stand my ground and defend my people when the need for it occurs. I will never forgive the caucasians for the shit they have inflicted on Black people!

  9. dj says:

Black people wake up. We have no friends and praying will not stop this type of evil from coming your way. We need to be willing to sacrifice our own lives to prove a point and show our youth that being a coward is not the way and allowing your fear to transform you into a docile human is no good for your loved ones…smh

  10. WWC says:

How can you challenge white supremacy and be “of the Christian faith”? Without white supremacy there would be no Christian faith

    1. WWC says:

it’s like sayin you don’t eat pork but you hunt pigs.

  11. Nita Singleton says:

I just dont understand why they hate us so much.. All i can do is weep at the reality that we are now in a race war and so far we are losing… killing our kids, our men, and now our elders.. going in a church and shooting elders.. IT DOES NOT GET ANY WORSE THEN THAT

  12. ebi says:

Please change your Uncle Tom reference to Sambo

  13. str8_talk says:

@Hunting_Jin @dc1969 @WWC..We need more brothers like you in the black community. All I keep seeing is them beaten cowardly kissing massa ass negroes like in the photo..

  14. SmartLady says:

What’s interesting is I was watching the news this morning and the white victims on the boston marathon bomber all wanted “Justice.” Even though the bomber apologized, they were like we dont accept your apology, WE WANT DEATH! As a matter of fact, the only time I have ever seen a white person forgiving their attacker is if the attacker was an animal like a bear or dog or whatever…iust saying…

    1. R8sing A Nation says:

@Smart Lady I was also watching the victims on t.v yesterday and what stuck me was how they were explaining there injuries and PTSD. They also spoke about how they have formed multiple support groups and advocacy groups. I was thinking how victims of police brutality are basically pushed into silence and victims of white supremacy iare given little to no platform to express their injuries or PTSD. I think those are terms we should use when afforded the opportunity to speak on a public platform. One lady spoke about how she felt like she needed to be hyper aware of her surroundings and she does not feel safe. Hmmmmm a bomber is a rare event(though she is entitled to her feelings) ..but I think about how encountering white supremacy and a dirty racist cop highly likely. Where’s the sympathy and press conferences?

If the shit hit the fan tonight. Are you ready? How much ammunition do you have. How many guns do you have? Do you have a emergency bug out bag? How much water can you carry. Can your kids and women keep up? Can they shoot to kill? Can you field dress a deer, wild hog,or bear? I’ll stop right here. If you’re serious about change call me 910-625-7014.

One other thing is that a lot of digital cameras are available equipped with any zoom lens that enables more or less of the scene being included simply by ‘zooming’ in and out. These kind of changes in the aim length are generally reflected inside viewfinder and on significant display screen at the back of your camera.”
