Money will never replace the void felt after losing a family member or loved one, but that’s not to believe that money isn’t deserved because your deceased loved one was a victim of injustice.
A Black Chicago teen by the name of Laquan McDonald was murdered by Chicago police back in October, after being shot 16 times. The incident occurred after the late McDonald was confronted by police on October 20, 2014. The murder is currently under federal investigation because the policed claimed they were “in fear for their lives”, which allegedly prompted them to shoot the teen 16 times. The Chicago City Council’s Finance Committee has proposed that they pay $5 million to the family of the slain teen. The council will vote on the terms of the settlement on Wednesday, April 15.

They always use, “in fear of our lives”, “he was rushing us”, “we saw what looked to be a gun”, “he was reaching”. I just stopped trusting the police. They lost that trust. So, now we should have a guilty until they can prove to US they are innocent. That is fair, right? They make us prove our innocence every damn time we get shot or arrested on some trumped up charges.
$5 million to me is too small for that family. Their son was shot 16x? How about we make that 16 a multiplier to the $5 million, therefore totaling, $80 million for the family, and the money cannot be taxed. The family cannot be taxed under any circumstances for 20 years (rounding up based on the son’s age). How about that? Also, fire the police taking away their pension and put them in jail as well for 20 years, after 15 years they can file for parole.
That is not even fair to the family given they lost a son.
$5 million is disrespectful imo.
