White Supremacy? There’s An App For That.

OAKLAND, CA — This Bay Area city in California was once known for being a proud hub of Black culture, as it was also had a reputation of being one of the United States’ “Chocolate Cities”.

Today, it seems that Oakland–in conjunction with the natural effects that time causes–has changed drastically.

As suspected white supremacists continue to move into the area, many of them have resorted to being part of an online community, ran by nextdoor.com. The website, which was developed in nearby San Francisco in 2010, has seen a sharp uptick in usage of the web platform. 176 neighborhoods (and 20 percent of all households in the city) in Oakland have groups registered on Nextdoor. The site, which is known as “the private social network for neighborhoods”, allows people to report “suspicious activity.”

Of course, much of the reporting on Nextdoor involves reporting innocent Black people as being suspects for merely engaging in non-criminal/pedestrian activity, such as walking down the street. Many of the area’s Black door-to-door sales reps and mailmen have been labeled as “suspects”, according to the online company.

White members of Nextdoor have used the site to call the police and file complaints about Black residents nearby, which includes being “too noisy” at public parks and bars. Mitsu Fisher, a Black father of two, isn’t allowing his kids to play outside or roam the neighborhood free without his presence. The concern stems from a February 2014 incident in which a patrol officer working for a private security company chased down and shot a young Black teenage boy. To make matters worse, the private security company that  the race soldier worked for forbids their officers from carrying firearms. As a result of shooting the Black teen, the officer was rewarded by white members of Nextdoor.com and local neighborhood groups on Yahoo, with all of them collaborating to buy him a gift.

One Black Oakland native by the name of Leland Thompson has grown so weary of the rampant racism in theses local Internet groups that he has decided to stop wearing hoodies. After regularly browsing “Glenfriends”, a Yahoo group created by the Glenview (in Oakland) neighborhood residents, he has discovered that an overwhelming amount of the “suspicious activity” reports in the group described him. “Black man, five-ten, 160 pounds, bald,” Mr. Thompson says in reference to the typical descriptions given in the “Glenfriends” Yahoo group.

    wow. Just WOW!!
how do we counter act this? Do we create our own app too ?

  2. Rodstradamus says:

You counter this by …..being on Nextdoor.com. This website is really good, it is just a tool used by white supremacist…its not really private. I am on it for work to market to the community and I often see racist post about suspicious people. I learn ALOT about how white people think and communicate as a neighborhood…its very interesting. Yea, we can create our own website, but we also can use some of the tools that are out there for gain….

  3. Propaganda says:

Why are white people so insecure?

    1. David Stratton says:

We aren’t all insecure. Some women ask the same thing about men, “Why are men so insecure?” in response to extreme misogyny.

Some people are taught to hate by parents. Some people have a bad encounter with one particularly bad member of a demographic and the trauma of that causes them to project that bad experience on to the entire demographic. Still others have socially-constructed delusions of grandeur that are deeply institutionalized. I think it’s this last one that is the pernicious, nasty one to kick. The others you can kill with kindness. I can’t kill an institution with kindness.

Anyhoo, I’ve continued to be white, but to recognize that I bleed the same red anyone else does and to support, encourage, and comfort my friends of color whenever the opportunity presents itself. Not sure if that’s the solution to what’s ailing the USA, but I figure it can’t hurt.

I am also praying for #BLM and other social justice movements. You guys are risking your health and safety–as much as it saddens me to admit that that’s the America we live in today–by participating in these rallies and demonstrations. I’ve been to some, but it is different for me. If shots started getting fired, I wouldn’t be a target, know what I mean? So I have deep respect and admiration for what you are doing. I guess what I’m saying is that some of us notice it, we see what you’re doing, we know what you’re aiming for, and we’re trying to stay out of the way so as not to impede progress and are waiting and ready when/if our support and help is requested.

I hope that encourages you and doesn’t cause further frustration.

      God bless!

      David

I appreciate humans that dare to show their humanity. It is with great optimism that I look to the future when I see people like you. It may take some time for others to reach that measure of understanding that you have but I believe we’ll get there. Ignorance and hatred will be shed like the chaff it is.

I’m not encouraged by anything you have to say. I’m confused as to why you are posting on Melanoidnation.org. You are not welcome here.

every time African-Americans come face-to-face with white Americans we see them as criminals that have not been brought to justice and that are still at large.

The black man and woman being interviewed seem to be educated with proper etiquette and still being profiled as suspects because they’re black. I guess damn if you do damn if you dont with these white supremacist

  6. Maccoroni jones says:

This is incredible, those white supremacist will not stop reporting these fake black alerts until their hatred is fulfilled. Which ends in one of their cries for help successful in killing one of us. 🙁
I think they like high five each other and dance around and shit when one of us goes down. And especially if they could be a part of it. I think they feel like heroes or something. It’s really devious how they do us.

    1. Jeremy says:

black people need their own communities but they have them that we come mess up and blame black on white crime and Obama is a muslim. all lives matter!

      1. David Stratton says:

Jeremy, what did you even just try to say, friend? I think you’ve just demonstrated, on multiple levels, why a major overhaul of our educational system is needed in this country.

Obama is absolutely *not* a Muslim. Or if he is, he’s a very bad one. I’ve seen him drink alcohol. He’s never been on pilgrimmage to Mecca. I’ve never seen any photographs of him performing 5x daily prayers toward Mecca. He doesn’t attend a mosque but DOES have a home church.

I don’t agree with everything the man’s done as a president (the whole decision to use drone strikes does not sit well with me, especially since there have been several incidents where civilians were willfully endangered and/or killed with drone strikes), but he’s more of a Christian man than George W. Bush was as president.

And no one is arguing that *ONLY* black lives matter. That’s preposterous to the extreme. The reason #BlackLivesMatter was settled on as a hashtag for this movement was because all races are sitting at the same table (i.e. the world) and plates of food are being passed around, and black folks have been waiting an awful long time for the food to get passed their way. Finally, their stomach gurgling because they’re starving, they say, “Um, excuse me, could you pass the food to our end of the table? We haven’t had anything to eat yet.” Whereas the expectation would be for someone at the table to say, “Oh wow, yes, of course! There’s plenty for everyone, we’re sorry you didn’t get anything yet. Please, help yourself!”, instead they are scowled at and told, “How rude of you! *EVERYONE* deserves to get to eat! Stop trying to horde it all for yourselves.”

Now…they’ve got an empty plate. And they’re being told that it’s selfish to say #BlackPeopleShouldGetToEat because really #AllPeopleShouldGetToEat. But the thing is, everyone else *IS* eating. But not the black folks at the table. So to say #AllPeopleShouldGetToEat is ludicrous. It’s up there with “War is Peace” and other quips from Orwell’s ‘1984’ for nonsense. Of *COURSE* #AllLivesMatter. The point is that while it is definitely true that it SHOULD be the case that #AllLivesMatter, the fact is that historically in the United States of America (and many other Western nations) the experience of black people has been overwhelmingly that #BlackLivesDON’TMatter. And in response to that overwhelming feeling of persecution and oppression, they are stating plainly #BlackLivesMatter.

        Get it now?

        Good.

Now, please stop hating and go start being part of making the world a better place! 🙂

      2. JayBay says:

Hey Jeremy. So what is your solution for building up black communities? We talked about this before but show everyone your eternal wisdom on how to help out. I mean, you’ve been on this site for a few days now. Surely you must have a solution on how to build up the wealth of the black community? Let’s see what you have.

        1. August Noone says:

If I may. 1. First we must stop hating on each other.
2.We must learn to speak and acknowledge
          each other.
          3. We already know that black don’t crack. We must learn that
          black does not harm black.
I just listed a few BASIC starting points. There are a lot more. Write them down.

    2. David Stratton says:

      MJ,

For the record as a white male, if I ever saw someone dancing around and high-fiving over the death of anyone, I would confront them about it. I do NOT cotton to that kind of foolishness. People need to be free to go about their lives without having to worry about where the next gunshot is coming form. Good God, this is the 21st century! Why is this what we’re fighting about in the 21st century? We’re supposed to have flying cars by now, but we can’t even get it together to get along with one another. Shameful. 🙁

    3. dj says:

they have been doing false reporting ever since…today’s technology (phone cameras, internet, etc…) is just making it more evident…old news if you ask me…

  7. Garrett says:

@David stratton, in the system of white supremacy, the propaganda of melanoid people will be negative and non empowering. If you are concerned with melanoid people(not black because it means we are not real according to Black’s Law) then fight for us to get economic amends and reparations. Help us be a separtist group and empower us economically. Discuss how whites are taking all the resources from melanoid people in white communities, accorsing to Neely fuller jr.

  8. What says:

They just can’t believe they don’t fit in???
    And don’t understand why!
    Amazing!!!

  9. Semaj Divine says:

According to Dr. Claud Anderson, and paraphrasing; Racism is a competitive relationship between groups of people for ownership, wealth, power and resources. It is a group phenomenon. And paraphrasing Neely Fuller, If you don’t understand Racism and White Supremacy, all other issues will only confuse you. Add on top of that, Dr. Welsings, theory of White Genetic survival and I would state you have all the answers to every question in relation to the group conduct of so called White and Black peoples.
As a group so called white people believe in scarcity of resources, as well as private ownership of those resources as “theirs”, but other societies have a more “us and we” mentality. And are about sharing resources because the reality is there is abundance of all things necessary for natural life on the earth. There is no scarcity. So called White people have demonstrated through actions as a group that they have no interest at all in being a friend to the black man/woman, or any other hue of man, or establishing a system of justice where by all have equal access to resources. And he can not, because in that situation, he would not control anything, and would be placed in a position of subordination by osmosis. They will use every trick in the book to establish and maintain their dynasty. What will the melinated man do to build his empire?
